Cape Town (South Africa) – South Africa’s Deputy President, Kgalema
Motlanthe has said that his country is looking to Nigeria for the
purchase of its crude oil.
Motlanthe told newsmen in Cape Town on Wednesday at the signing of a
Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with Vice President Namadi Sambo that
following the uncertainty of supply of oil from Iran, Nigeria’s oil was
part of the option available.
The South Africa may be forced to comply with a U.S. sanction threat
on countries buying oil from Iran, from where it sources about a
quarter of its oil.
“We would say to our Nigerian brothers that there will be demand for
their crude oil because we don’t want to source our oil from areas that
are likely to be unstable.
“Indeed, we are quite confident that Nigeria will become one of our trusted suppliers of crude,” he
stressed.
Motlanthe said PetroSA and private traders were expected to look at supply agreements for oil from Nigeria.
NAN recalls that the South Africa’s Minister of Energy Dipuo Peters last week said the government would decide
on its response to the threat by the U.S. end of the month.
In his response Sambo said Nigeria was ready to offer economic
support to South Africa in line with the economic cooperation between
the two countries.
He said the agreement would help in strengthening and promoting the business environment in the continent’s biggest economies.
The Vice President said the agreement would also enable the two
countries to bring in business people from both countries to explore
investment opportunities in the countries.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on economic and technical
co-operation was also signed between, Nigeria’s Minister of Trade and
Investment, Olusegun Aganga and his South African counterpart Rob
Davies.
Another MOU was also signed between Aganga and South Africa’s Minister of Finance Pravin Gordhan, to offer
mutual assistance in customs administration of the two countries.(NAN)

Adeboye tasks Nigerians on love, unity
LAGOS – GENERAL Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG,
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of
love and unity to enhance Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Believing God is in control of the situation of the country, Pastor Adeboye said with the spirit of love and unity, the country will regain its lost glory and bounce back as the giant of Africa.
Speaking through the Assistant Pastor of RCCG national headquarters parish, Pastor Goke Aniyeloye, at a briefing to herald the monthly special prayer meeting of the church, Adeboye asked Nigerians to shun sins and other negative tendencies and work towards the betterment of the country.
According to him, “The number one thing Nigerians should embrace is love, let the Easterners love the Westerners, Northerners and vice-versa, without this we cannot be living as one nation but with different groups and minds. We should support those in leadership positions and through these the country will bounce back not only as the giant of Africa but giant of the world.”

Peru 1-0 Nigeria: Paolo Guerrero goal earns hosts victory over Super Eagles
The Blanquirroja defeated the Super Eagles by a lone goal in Lima on Thursday morning in an encounter that showed the depth of Stephen Keshi's team
Peru defeated Nigeria by a lone goal in an international friendly played at the Estadio Nacional, Lima on Thursday.
Hamburg’s Paolo Guerrero scored the only goal of the encounter in the 37th minute.
Nigeria had encountered a number of problems on their way to Lima for this encounter and were not expected to put up much opposition to their hosts who also had advantage of altitude working for them.
It wasn't a surprising line-up fielded by coach Stephen Keshi who left his five foreign-based players on the bench as he kept faith with his home-based team that played against Egypt in April.
Peru started the more confident side as they sent in long balls in attempts to trouble the visitors but the front line led by Claudio Pizarro and Guerrero could not hit the target.
This gave the Eagles some confidence as they began to have more time on the ball in midfield where Gabriel Reuben and Ejike Uzoenyi held their ground against their more established opponents.
This enabled front man Kalu Uche to attempt runs against the Peruvian defence but he was cut off in the final third.
The first shot on goal in the game came from Jefferson Farfan whose free kick from 25 yards was palmed for a corner kick by Chigozie Agbim.
The Blanquirroja’s breakthrough finally came on 37 minutes from a counter attack as Guerrero’s right-footed low shot into Agbim’s far side gave the hosts the lead.
Nigeria missed her own chance of going equal when Kalu Uche’s header off an Uzoenyi corner kick hit the goalkeeper’s back.
The second half saw Peru make three changes as Guevara, Ampuero and Alvarez came on for Lobaton, Yoshimar and Galliquio.
Nigeria also made changes as Nwankwo Obiorah and Nnamdi Oduamadi came on for the duo of Gabriel and Uzoenyi.
Azubuike Egwueke and Guerrero got into a scuffle when tempers flared as the game wore on. However, it was the visitors who had the upper hand in the second period as they searched for an equaliser.
Keshi’s addition of Raheem Lawal, Gege Soriola and Sunday Mba helped to change the complexion of the game as the Eagles edged possession but could not find the needed opportunity to stun their hosts.
Oduamadi on the left wing kept the Blanquirroja on the defensive but his final ball could not find the needed connection to break the hosts’ defence.
Guerrero almost gave his side another goal from almost the same situation where he notched the first goal but Agbim got a hand to the ball to give away a corner kick.
Nigeria will take the confidence gained from the encounter into their 2014 World Cup qualification match against Namibia on June 3 in Calabar.
Track coach, daughter-in-law of Nike co-founder, fired for taking senior to prom
The daughter-in-law of Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman,
who has served as a volunteer high school track and field coach in
Oregon, was fired on Monday after an investigation proved that she
escorted a 17-year-old member of her boys track squad to the school's
prom.
As reported by the Associated Press, 41-year-old Melissa Bowerman, the daughter-in-law of waffle-sole inventor Bill Bowerman, escorted an unnamed 17-year-old on the Condon (Ore.) High track team to the school's prom after the runner told her he lacked a date for the prom. Bowerman, who is married to 73-year-old co-coach Jon Bowerman and also has a son on the same team, told the AP that she offered to take the student to prom in part to motivate him to improve his grades in his English class.
"If they go on [academic] probation and suspension, then they can't go to the track meets," Melissa Bowerman told the AP. "I said, 'OK, I will go with you, but we've got to talk about English first. You're going to do better in English.'"
Bowerman insisted that she and her date only danced to "a couple" of slow songs and spent the rest of the evening playing ping pong and foosball. The student's father also said he was OK with the coach escorting his son because, "Melissa has been like a surrogate mom to these kids for years."
The handling of Bowerman's dismissal wasn't done in the most tactful manner, either. With the Condon team preparing to load a bus for the state track and field meet, the Bowermans were told that Melissa could not ride on the team bus with the athletes, her husband and other parents.
In the meantime, Jon Bowerman has said he will consider resigning from the program if his wife is not allowed to return, a stunning turn of events just weeks after the school officially inaugurated a brand new, state of the art track that was made possible by a trade of the family heirloom Bowerman waffle iron that Jon's father, former Oregon track coach and Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman, used to make running shoe soles for Nike that provided better traction.
"The only thing we've done wrong is build them a new track and get uniforms and build them a powerhouse program," Jon Bowerman told the AP. "If she doesn't come back, I'm not coming back."

FG paid N100m to family of slain Boko Haram leader – AGF
Besides issues bothering on Salami’s reinstatement, the AGF, equally
revealed, yesterday, that a “White Paper”, chronicling all the factors
behind the Boko Haram insurgency in Northern parts of the country had
been gazetted by the Federal Government.
The AGF noted that despite ensuring that all the police officers that were accused of complicity in the extra-judicial murder of the leader of the Boko Haram Islamic sect, Yusuf Mohammed, in 2009, are prosecuted, the government equally paid N100million to his family “as part of the reconciliation process.”
Besides, Adoke, said the Federal Government has submitted the fuel subsidy probe report to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for the prompt prosecution of those indicted by the report, saying “Nigerians should be assured that there will be no sacred cows.”
Emphasizing need for the anti-graft agencies to conduct thorough investigations before charging cases to court, the AGF, said even if the government concedes to establish a special court for the prosecution of corruption cases, such courts would always dismiss graft cases whenever the prosecuting agencies fail to generate enough evidence against an accused person, stressing that the case upon which a London Court convicted the former governor of Delta State, James Ibori, was different from the trial he hitherto faced in Nigeria.

Many feared dead as vehicle plunged into river in Bayelsa
TRAGEDY struck in the early hours of yesterday along the Bayelsa State stretch of the East-West road when an unidentified passenger vehicle plunged into the Okoso river following a collision with another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction.
It was gathered that the poor state of the road may have been partly responsible for the tragic accident coupled with likely fatigue on the part of the drivers as well as poor visibility and lack of road signs to warn drivers of the deplorable state of the of the road.Though the number of passengers is yet to be identified and commercial car which plunged into river could not be ascertained but the driver of the other vehicle, an old Honda car with Rivers State plate number AG 188 KHE who sustained serious injuries was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Yenagoa.
The Okoso Bridge, scene of the tragic accident was besieged by sympathizers and other motorists who stopped by to see what assistance they could rendered to the victims.
Armed policemen and other security operatives travelling through the route were also on hand to render assistance and help direct traffic on the road to prevent gridlock given the near chaotic situation on the route.
But some of the sympathizers at the scene told Vanguard that some public spirited persons had been diving into the river in search of the vehicle and possibly survivors but to no avail.
They noted with concern that nobody had been able to identify the make of the vehicle or the number of passengers travelling in the vehicle when the accident occurred between Monday midnight and early hours of Tuesday.
According to them, only the driver of the Honda who was unconscious when he was rescued could narrate what actually happened and the fate of the occupants of the other vehicle that plunged into the river.
A resident close to the scene of accident said, “We heard a loud bang but it was difficult to describe what actually happened. When we rushed to the scene, we only saw the badly damaged Honda lying off the bridge with no sign of the other vehicle.
“The injured driver was rushed to hospital and we searched to no avail in the darkness for the other vehicle and continued again at daybreak hoping that we will rescue somebody.”
Also, a one of the local divers searching the river for the other vehicle and its occupants said all they were encountering were concrete slabs that were used to protect the side of the river from erosion caused by the strong incident current.
He showed our correspondent who visited the scene at about 7am a long bamboo pole that was used to prod the water in the course of their search stressing, “as at that time, there was no hope of finding any survivors as the victims would have been inside the river for over eight hours.

True story of Uche Jombo’s arrest, release
…She was unruly — Police source
It is no longer an issue of contention that Uche Jombo recently slept in the police’s cell while filming in Surulere, Lagos. What is news rather is the ugly incident that preceded her action.
HVP findings during the week indicated that the actress was arrested and detained at Bode Thomas police station in Surulere, following what the police described as her ‘unruly behaviour.’
A source close to the police told HVP that Uche Jombo defied all protocols, as she took the law into her own hands by going to shoot her film in a Police station without duly obtaining a written permission from the Inspector General of Police. The IG, according to the source, is the only authorised person to approve of such undertaking.
Narrating further, our source said while Uche was filming with her cast and crew members, trouble ensued when the policemen led by the Divisional Crime Officer(DCO) confronted them.
But rather than explaining things politely to the policemen, the actress was said to have flared up, raining abuses at the policemen, a situation that angered the Divisional Police Officer at Bode Thomas Police station who ordered for her immediate arrest and detention.
Hear the police source; “Uche Jombo and her team came to shoot film in a government establishment without duly obtaining a written permission from the IG, who is the only person authorised to do so. When the police confronted her, instead of explaining things politely, she became rude to them, shouting and telling them that she can pay their salaries. She particularly assaulted the DCO. So, when the matter was reported back to the DPO, who was also furious with her action, he quickly ordered his men to get her arrested and detained.
“She lacks respect, and if she is truly one of the ambassadors of GSM brand, she should reflect the same in her conduct and dealings with other people.”
According to the source, the police threatened to charge the matter to court just to embarrass the actress. But for the intervention of some members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria(AGN) who prevailed on the DPO to temper justice with mercy, Uche would have been standing trial for “unruly behaviour, unlawful invasion of government institution to shoot film and assault on the police.”
Uche Jumbo was arrested by the police at Bode Thomas police station in Surulere, alongside Ghanaian actor,Van Viker and other crew members while filming on Thursday, May 3. They were detained by the police for about 12 hours before they were released on Friday.
Meanwhile, attempt by HVP to reach Uche Jombo for reaction proved abortive as her cell phone, at the time of filing this report was switched off.

Nigerian Racing Eagles to race in 12 GRC series
Nigerian Racing Eagles to race in 12 GRC series
Principal/Owner of Team Nigeria Racing Eagle, Ribi Adeshokan has disclosed that the racing team will compete soon in the GT3 series.Speaking to Vanguard Sports in Lagos, the Motorsports manager said the team would participate in twelve races in the various races in the GT3 series when it finally enters the series.
“We are looking at ten to twelve races at least in the GT3 series as it would be heavy on us financially to compete in all of the series. This will enable our drivers rob shoulders with the best in the series as we look ahead to entering the Formula 1 someday,” Adeshokan said.
He further noted that, before the Nigerian Racing Eagles drivers would enter into the GT3 series which happens to be the International B license, they would first compete in few races before getting their pass.
“One of our drivers, Ovie Iroro would be competing this weekend in Rockingham in the UK which is just on of the four races he will be competing in to get his license to partake in the GT3 series,” Adeshokan added.
He further said that the qualification for the GT3 series is difficult as more than 5,000 drivers would be crashing the tracks as only just 20 would qualify.
Damiete Charles Granville: I was merely a girl but now I am a lady
An Interview with Damiete Granville:
Damiete Granville, 23, who won the crown as First runner-up and Miss Universe stands 5.9th feet tall with a slim frame of a gazelle. She hails from Calabari in Rivers state and also represented her state in the pageant. She is in her final year at the University of Benin, studying Mass Communications. She loves dancing, hanging out with friends and reading. She bares her mind to Showtime too on her experience and what she hopes to do. Execerpts:Is this your first pageant?
not exactly. I came for the audition of the last pageant in 2010 but I did not make it. I pushed to come again this year and here I am.
So what did you do differently this time?
This time around I was bold and a bit more outspoken. Most of all I believed in myself and I just kept on giving myself a little peep talk, like don’t worry it’s going to be alright.
What did you learn from participating in the pageant?
The camp was beautiful I met 32 beautiful ladies, they were all friendly. I learn how to behave more like a lady and also talk and walk like a lady. I also learned some nice dance moves, it was really fun but generally I learned how to be a lady
You gave an impression like you were a tomboy, are you?
I am not a tomboy. Before the experience I was merely a girl but now I am a lady. You know being a girl is natural but being a lady is something that has to be imbibed and I guess I learned a whole lot about being a lady.
What would you want to do as Miss Universe?
I will like to use my crown for a pet project. That is to encourage environmental control and protection in view of the fact that our environment has been abused, reduced and neglected. So I would like to enlighten the public how to keep it safe from abuse and degradation. Like telling them about recycling, reusing and reducing.
But all this you are saying doesn’t come naturally to a young girl. Where did you learn all about this?
I have been a follower of environmental catastrophes in the world and I believe I know to a certain extent what it takes to bring about public enlightenment on environmental protection. What I don’t know I wish to learn. I think I am even lucky to be the Miss Universe because Universe is about the air, about the environment. I have learnt a bit about the environmental problems of the world like water pollution, air pollution, desertification, afforestation and global warming. So my major mission is to help make our environment safe for future generation.
What were the challenges you had to cope with in the camp?
The only challenges I can remember is having to wake in the morning very early, like 5-6am for exercise. Everybody was like, you are so slim, so fit but believe me when I started the exercises I realised I wasn’t fit at all. It really helped me and I got to learn some exercising skills I know will help me to stay in shape.
Did you ever think you would come this far?
No, I never thought I would come this far, I was just hoping that I would make it even though I had my dream to go all the way. When I made the top five my heart was really pounding that yes I could make it and when the top three was announced and I made it still I said to myself, yes, this is it at least I hadn’t come for nothing.
Apart from this pageant what else do you wish to do?
I have always loved modeling. After this I think I am going to be a model. After that, with my degree I will consider a career in broadcasting. Be a presenter and have my own talk-show like ‘Moment with Mo’.
Who are your role models?
The number one person is my mother. She has always been my backbone and given me every support I need. The next person is Agbani Darego. She has been an inspiration. The feat she achieved with being the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria and going ahead to win Miss World and the fact that we are from the same place has given me the push I need. She taught me that with hardwork and determination one can achieve ant set goal.
Nigeria to launch 3 satellites
Abuja- Prof. Ita Ewa, the Minister of Science and Technology said on Thursday that Nigeria would launch three satellites and send astronauts to space by 2015.Ewa stated this in Abuja at the ongoing ministerial briefing to commemorate 2012 Democracy Day and anniversary of President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.
He said the move was part of government efforts to boost the economy through space technology.
The minister enumerated the country’s space programme from now to 2028 when it expects to launch a made-in-Nigeria satellite into space.
“In 2015 we are preparing to launch NigeriaSAR-1 satellite. The NigeriaSAR is a security satellite with an acronym that stands for Synthetic Aperture Radar.
“This satellite will have a very high resolution that can cover kilometres, and for a backup of the communication satellite there will be NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-3.
“Also because of the experience we gained in Surrey, UK, we are going to build an Assembly Integration and Testing Centre for satellite technology, it is ongoing but this year we will put in more efforts to that technology.
“And before I leave office in 2015 we will send Nigerian Astronaut into space ’’
He said by 2018 Nigeria would launch a manufactured satellite and in 2025 develop rocket and propulsion system.
“In 2026 we have allies in electronics and software involved in space technology, and in 2028 we would now launch a Nigeria made satellite.”
Ewa enumerated the achievements of the ministry to include the launch of two low earth observation satellites – NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X as well as a communication satellite-NigComSat-1R.
He also said a rocketry was successfully launched on Wednesday in Epe, Lagos, while about 40 doctors and 60 masters degree holders had been trained in space technologies.
“100 personnel from the military who have been trained in space applications this year are now ready to be involved in surveillance satellite project.”
Ewa said the ministry had conducted several biotechnology researches and developed products to boost food production.
On bio-safety, he said the ministry was awaiting the assent by the President to the Bio-safety Bill earlier passed by the National Assembly.
Some of the ministry’s achievements in biotechnology according to him, include the development of baseline data generation for tsetse fly, human and animal trypanosomiasis control and eradication in Jigawa.
Others are pilot production for malaria Hepatitis B and pregnancy test kits, and development of thermophilic anaerobic bio-digester for the management of bio-degradable waste and production of organic fertiliser.
He also mentioned capacity building for commercial production of snails and freshwater fish, design and construction of mushroom houses at Obasanjo Farms, Ota, and domestication of grass cutters among others.
The minister disclosed that arrangement was ongoing on secure funding for the implementation of National Science and Technology Policy (NSTI).
Ewa said the policy would focus on the promotion and coordination of scientific and technological researches in the country.
The minister urged Nigerians to take advantage of available satellite resources and other products developed for full commercialisation. (NAN)
NOLLYWOOD TOP ACTRESS HIDDEN SECRETS EXPOSED !
In Nollywood,as you read this, that is the spectacle that has just unfolded. It is also one topic on most lips in that sector right now.And the reason is this:an actress,a big one at that, who has always found
it difficult to put her laps in one place as well as say no to handsome men just got exposed.
One of her two children was not fathered by her husband.
The biological father of the baby,a girl,is a mulatto actor with whom she once had a whirlwind romance.
Their secret shame just came to the open as the girl is getting older. She looks very much like her ‘away father’.And because their romance was so pronounced then, many have begun murmuring about the little girl’s paternity.
The sex-crazy actress is very pretty and from South-South.
Her hubby,also into entertainment,hails from South-West.
The lover boy whose child she transferred to her husband doesn’t know who his father is.Alphabets O, J and B begin the names of the trio respectively.
Tracing the love story of the actor and actress,a reliable source told us that movie locations where they usually got paired together did the match making.
In fact, tales abound that the two at some point usually insisted that they must be cast together or no show. And because they had so perfected how to go about this, anytime a producer invited one person to work for him or her,the partner in crime must insist on the other also coming on board.
And because they were so hot then, most producers had no choice than to do that.
It was at one of the locations that the goal which the whole of Nollywood, and even those outside, are now screaming about was scored.
All eyes are currently on the two of them-especially as people eagerly want to know how their spouses will react upon hearing the messy story which is fast spreading all over the place.
Obama wooing young voters with student loan focus
"This is a question of values," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address Saturday. "We cannot let America become a country where a shrinking number of people do really well while a growing number of people struggle to get by."
Obama wants Congress to extend a law that cut interest rates on a popular federal loan program for low- and middle-income undergraduates. If the law expires, the rates will double on July 1, from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent.
Obama blames Republicans for voting against new ways to make college more affordable for middle-class families. But it was House Democrats who cut interest rates on the school loans in 2007 and included an expiration provision that placed the looming increase in the middle of an election year.
Education Secretary Arne Duncan said Friday that more than 7 million students would be financially squeezed if rates were to rise, to the cost of an additional $1,000 on average.
Obama is visiting to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Colorado at Boulder on Tuesday and the University of Iowa on Wednesday. The three schools are in states Obama won in 2008 but are in play this year in his race against the likely Republican nominee, Mitt Romney.
"In America, higher education cannot be a luxury," Obama said. "It's an economic imperative that every family must be able to afford."
He argued that at a time of high joblessness, the rate of unemployment for Americans with a college degree is about half the national average. "It's never been more important," he said.
The courting of young voters will include an appearance on NBC's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" show, which will be taped while Obama is in North Carolina.
While Obama addressed education as his newest election-year theme, Republicans stuck to their criticism of Obama's energy policies. Citing still high gasoline prices, Sen. Roy Blunt of Missouri said Obama is focusing on the wrong issues.
Blunt chided Obama and Senate Democrats in the GOP's weekend address for pushing unsuccessfully for a tax increase on millionaires instead of focusing on consumer pain at the pump. He pressed Obama to drop his opposition to the Keystone XL Canada-to-Texas oil pipeline, which the president blocked earlier this year. The administration says it is waiting for the pipeline developer, TransCanada, to submit a new route that avoids environmentally sensitive lands. The company unveiled a preferred route on Thursday.
"The Keystone pipeline is one common-sense step in the right direction to help put more people back to work, reduce prices at the pump and position our nation for greater energy security now and in the future," Blunt said
GENEVIEVE NNAJI TOPS 5 HOTTEST CELEBRITY WOMEN LIST
an unblemished beauty- free of nips and tucks. We can imagine her in her 50s still looking as amazing as when she marked her 33rd birthday. We love her style- ingenious, easy and yet sophisticated.
Debola Esho: Genevieve Nnaji rocks! She is the kind of girl you want to go back to after work. She’s not going to get the whole football team casting lustful stares at her, but for a man with good taste and class, you know she’s the kind of woman that’ll make you look good anytime you introduce her in public- sweet, clean and very pretty!
Chinedu Anyiam: The first time I saw Toolz in a magazine, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. She’s just like a vase- a very well-sculpted vase that is meant to just sit on my table and look good- without any flowers in it! Her figure confuses me, but it’s the good kind of confusion. I don’t know how the guys in her office can keep a straight face and work while she’s there. It’s got to be a tough job for them.
Deji Adekola: Kemi has a lot going for her and it gets better because she seems to understand that beauty doesn’t end with the brains; a woman has to look as sexy as her brain. I am all for women getting all the knowledge in the world, but when it comes to me and you, I want a pretty hot woman by my side- brains and beauty. Kemi fits that bill totally.
Joshua Mila: Tiwa is hot. All you see when you look at her is a girl that’s going to build your world OR wreck it, because when a girl so fine dumps you, you are never going to forget her. And all your pain will be transferred to whoever comes next. So sometimes, I stay away from girls like that. As a man, you have to be sure she’s in your league first, so you don’t suffer unnecessary heart-ache and become the butt of your friends’ jokes afterwards.
Rowland Obi: Damilola is ok. She’s going to pass the beauty test over and over in the eyes of a man. She’s slim and that is very important for me because with the rate we are going, it seems 4 out of 5 women are going to be obese in another 15 years in Nigeria. So the fact that she is free from any fat at the moment, stands as the true test of beauty in my opinion.

Where are our Virgins?
Those days, couples looked forward to their honey moon with so much anticipation. Because for the bride (sometimes the groom too), it’s a new
beginning of their sex lives. All the things they’ve heard in whispers would be totally put into practice. Wow! I could imagine how she would feel as she spread her innocent legs wide and watched the Almighty Anaconda slowl and ticklish penetrated her cubicle, breaking the gate that has been shielding it and then welcomes her into the ever-exciting world of sexual ecstasy.
But could the same be said of our contemporary society? Impatience and moral decadence has really stolen the virginity pride from us. Girls wouldn’t want to be told about sex, they want to experiment it themselves. While men of nowadays would do anything to lure even under-aged girls to their bed.
I was indeed very surprised when a 13-year-old JSS 2 student sent me a text asking if she is old enough to indulge in sexual acts. I asked why she wants to make sex her priority in life instead of her education - the same act she would start running away from in due time - so why on earth must she rush into it at that tender age?
I also remember those days, when men get frustrated in their attempt to see a lady’s cleavage. The women made sure they wore clothes that cover up every vital part of her body.
Lost by the beauty of her eyes, heart, character and other little places they manage to see through, they would crave to have her for keeps, so as to have the opportunity of seeing all her endowments in full the moments she becomes his wife. The eager husband-to-be would be so eager to unveil his bride and devour all she has been hiding. His impatience would make him agree to all terms and conditions.
It is totally a different ball game now. In reality women don’t wear panties; instead they tie coloured ropes round their waist.
Amazingly, I have heard people say that real women don’t wear panties. How true could that be? There reason for coming to such conclusion, I can’t say, but hope your guess is not as good as mine - i.e. for easy access to their treasure islands.
You will also see ladies dressed in two-piece clothes that could easily be mistaken for a scarf. The most annoying part is that you would still see the same girls battling to draw their skirts down and in the process pushing the little cloth barely covering their boobs up and down.
They keep acting as if they were compelled to put on such scanty dresses or perhaps they didn’t know it was not their size when wearing such.
In my formative age, my breasts were still as little as a nut when my mother kept cautioning me to stay away from boys. She told me if any man or boy came close to me or as much as touch me, then I will automatically become pregnant.
The fear worsened when I launched into womanhood with the first flow of blood. I quickly started recalling my movements in the previous days to know if I have been wrongly touched by any boy like my mum cautioned; perhaps, I had become pregnant. After while, I gathered enough courage to confide in my mum.
She scared the hell out me by telling me that now my case had worsened, because not just by mere touch, but my sitting close to any boy would get me pregnant. But how can I avoid that? I schooled in a mixed secondary school. Tucked in-between four boys in a seat. So if by any chance my mum’s scary words were true, I’d be impregnated by those four boys on a daily basis because we had exchange notebooks, biro, food and what have you.
Ironically when I grew much older, I damned the consequences and ate the forbidden fruits and detected the difference between the touch of a boy and the ‘banging’ of a man. But I believe I was matured enough before I embarked on that journey.
God help our secondary school female students because sex to them is a subject better experienced before being taught. Believe it or not, some of them now know more about the latest sex position and latest contraceptive. They believe virginity is no longer a virtue. Sad.
Let’s join hands together and bring back our lost moral values. Now is the jet age, the era of the ubiquitous social media and easy access to internet. And for that we are paying a great price. Right before our very eyes, our morals are dying out. What do we do?

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL: Kanu, Finidi beckon Mikel
Nwankwo Kanu and Finidi George were the first Nigerians to enter the Champions League hall of fame, when they won the cup with Ajax in 1995. In the final against AC Milan, Finidi regarded as the best crosser of the ball at that time played all 90 minutes, while Kanu came in as a 54th minute substitute in the game decided in Vienna, Austria.
It was worthy of note that they were the only Africans in the team dominated by Dutch superstars like Frank Rykaard, Marc Overmars, Ronald and Frank De Boer, Clarence Seedorf and Patrick Kluivert.
Rykaard a defensive midfielder just like Mikel, set up the only goal of match in the 85th minute for Kluivert to finish.
In 2012 Mikel who played a prominent part in Chelsea march to the final has spoken of his desire to make history with the Blues.
“If we win it will be the greatest win ever for Chelsea – we want to make history, and be be legends,” said Mikel.
Nigerians will be rooting for him and Chelsea to do the impossible against a Bayern side that is hard pressed for victory after losing out in all domestic titles this season.
“It will be difficult because it is an away game for us, but then there is more pressure on them to deliver.
“We will play with less pressure. Yes we’ve defied the odds.”

Buhari dares Jonathan: Arrest me if you can
On May 17, 2012 ·
Against the background of alleged threats to arrest him on account of his predictions of a bloody response to any rigging of the 2015 elections, erstwhile military Head of State General Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, dared President Goodluck Jonathan to carry out the threat.
Responding to the condemnations from the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to his assertion, Buhari said yesterday that only those now contemplating to rig the 2015 elections could have been afraid of the threat of a violent response.
While giving a robust defence of Buhari’s pan-Nigeria spirit, his party, the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC also chided President Jonathan for fixing his fellow Ijaws in prized national offices.
Support for Buhari also came yesterday from the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN which chided the administration for launching a personal attack on Buhari simply for giving a valid warning against election rigging.
The ACN said the attacks against Buhari were reflective of the determination of the ruling administration to use the instrument of power to return itself to power.
Buhari had stirred controversy while receiving a delegation of the CPC from Niger State on Monday.
Speaking in Hausa language while receiving a delegation of the CPC from Niger State, Buhari was quoted as referring to the Federal Government as the biggest Boko Haram. He was also quoted as saying: “God willing by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way. If what happens in 2011 should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, ‘the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood.’
Special Adviser to the President on Media, Dr. Reuben Abati in the presidency’s reaction said by his reference to the north in his speech, Buhari who is an elderstatesman has reduced himself to “a regional leader who speaks for only a part of Nigeria”.
Denouncing Buhari’s outbursts, the presidency and the PDP had described the former head of state as a serial election loser renowned for inciting his supporters to violence and a blood thirsty politician.
Galadima defends Buhari
But responding yesterday, Buhari speaking through his close political associate and national secretary of the CPC, Alhaji Buba Galadima dared the President to arrest him, saying that not even his master, General Olusegun Obasanjo dared to arrest him.
He said: “Let them go and pick him as their mentors are now advising them to. If Obasanjo cannot arrest Buhari, I want Jonathan to do it if he can try it because they are hiring people all over the North to be talking for them because they can pay them money.
“They are picking on the General because it is him they are afraid of and because once you take away rigging, they are gone; but they have forgotten that their master, Obasanjo was the first to talk of do or die, do or die means blood, if you don’t do what I want I will kill you, that is what he said.
“The issue is very simple, if you are not a thief why should you be afraid if they say whoever steals should be killed? That is why they are afraid.”
Galadima said that Buhari was not the first to have noted the existence of three Boko Harams in the country.
“General Buhari said he was quoting Prof. Ango Abdullahi who said that there are three Boko Harams, the original one, the one that is now perpetrated by criminals that are now raiding homes and markets and government itself. Was it not Jonathan who said that there are Boko Harams in his government,” Galadima asked yesterday.
He further gave a strong defence of General Buhari’s nationalistic spirit saying that Buhari as a soldier fought civil wars that arose from election rigging in the Congo and in Nigeria.
“Are you saying that somebody of Buhari’s stature cannot warn those in authority that there is no need for the country to go into this? Why are we mis-reading things? The man should be commended for having the courage to tell those in authrotiy that they should behave well.”
He also dared the administration to publish the contents of the Lemu Panel inquiry on post election violence which he claimed exonerated Buhari of culpability and rather blamed the administration.
“Why are they afraid to publish a white paper because it indicted them as having been responsible for the election violence. I dare them if they are honest people and I dare PDP if they are honest people, let them conduct a free and fair election and let’s see whether they will win one councillor.”
We stand by what Buhari said — CPC
The CPC in a statement also flayed the Jonathan administration for perpetuating an ethnic agenda separate from what it said was the nationalistic thrust of Buhari while in power.
In the statement issued by the party’s national publicity secretary, Engr. Rotimi Fashakin, the party said: “As Head of State, his Oil Minister was Professor Tam David-West, a Kalabari man in Rivers State. As a Leader, he created the ambience for his ministers to work unobtrusively and devoid of executive meddlesomeness. But what do we find with Dr Goodluck Jonathan? All the appointees as oil ministers in his two-year reign thus far as President of Nigeria have been Nigerians of Ijaw extraction, like himself!
“Second, on October 1, 2010, there was a bomb blast during the year’s independence anniversary celebrations, with attendant deaths of many Nigerians. Without waiting for any preliminary report from the Security Agencies, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, as President, told a traumatized Nation, “it is not MEND!
“Third, so far as President of Nigeria, Dr Good-luck Jonathan has shown very generous affinity for Nigerians of Ijaw stock in terms of appointments and promotions in the Federal Public sector. There is a marked lopsidedness that smacks of clannishness and ethnocentrism by the President!
“On Corruption and sleazy tendency, the Jonathan administration transcends all others before it! Nigerians are still befuddled by the impeachable show of arbitrariness by the regime in expending N2.67Trillion on fuel subsidy instead of the appropriated N240Billion in the 2011 appropriation act. As expected, the regime has attempted all manner of subterfuge to give Executive cover for the indicted people in the scam.
On Boko Haram, the party said:
“In January 2012, Dr Good-luck Jonathan told a bewildered nation, still smarting from murderous Bombings, that his government has been infiltrated by Boko Haram. In February 2012, a serving PDP senator from Borno South (Mohammed Ali Ndume) was arrested for being a member of Boko Haram.
In March 2012, Ndume deposed to an affidavit before a Federal High Court wherein he stated that Vice-President Namadi Sambo was aware of his activities with Boko Haram. In April 2012, General Andrew Owoeye Azazi , the National Security Adviser, averred that there was indisputable proof that Boko Haram is PDP. As things stand, President Jonathan is the national leader of PDP.”
ACN denounces crude attacks on Buhari
The ACN also condemning the attacks on Buhari said the warnings by the former head of state was only directed against plans to rig the 2015 election.
The party also condemned the personal nature of the attack by the presidency which it claimed did not dignify the president.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, Osun State, by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the statement for which Gen. Buhari is now being mercilessly savaged was nothing but a warning against those who may be planning to rig the 2015 general elections, hence should not have rankled anyone who believes in free, fair and transparent polls.
It said the viciousness of the seemingly coordinated attacks by the presidency and the PDP raise a lot of concern regarding their plans for the 2015 elections.
‘’We hold no brief for anyone. But it is true that if elections are rigged, as they have been so shamelessly and brazenly done by the PDP since 1999, naturally people will react, and in doing so it is impossible for anyone to predict how far things can go. This is what, in our opinion, Gen. Buhari warned against. If the presidency and the PDP have no intention to rig in 2015, why are they so worried about the consequences of such action?’’ ACN queried.
The party said Buhari’s warning was in order, considering that the 2011 general elections remain the most systematically-rigged polls in Nigeria’s history, irrespective of the so-called endorsement by some visceral foreign election monitors.
“The 2011 elections also left Nigeria divided along ethnic and religious lines”.
UNILAG refuses to let Sofoluwe’s candle go out
The procession which began at 6.00 pm, kicked off at the Senate Building of the main campus at Akoka, as students took a 360-degree journey past various departments of the school to climax at the same venue two hours later.
The beauty of the procession became more apparent after dark; as thousands of candles were lit in honour of the late VC.
Even after the procession, many students boycotted cabs and shuttles, walking all the way to the main gate, and causing traffic jam along the way. Some students went beyond the traditional black attire to special branded T- shirts with Sofoluwe’s picture on them.
Some of the students who spoke to Quadlife gave insight as to the reason for such a laudable response from the student body.
Oshimade Anu from the Pharmacy department said: “We are here to give him the last respects as our VC, because we will really miss him.”
Another student, Timi Tijani opined: “He was a man of great integrity, everything worked smoothly under his administration. I see him as a martyr, because if he had lived, he would have been a hero.”
Chika Azike who studies Marine Sciences said: “The VC really showed fatherly love to us, also he wasn’t too strict. That is why we decided to honour him today.”
Abiola Sobikun, a student of Cell Biology and Genetics, said: “The loss of the VC is very pathetic and devastating. It is very sad indeed.”
Even Oshineye Olivia, who came all the way from the Idiaraba Campus, had good things to say about the late VC: “We came all the way to honour our VC because he was a good man. He was very caring, and he had the students’ interests at heart.”
Femi Ajayi, a student of Public and International Affairs recalls his last interaction with the VC: “The last time I saw him was last week Friday in the library. I never expected that he won’t be here with us today.”
Sofoluwe died of a heart attack on Saturday, May 12, this year.
Mystery behind baby born with Qur'an
The baby was born on Monday May 7thth, 2012, at Victoria Moses Church in Mushin, to an unmarried mother. According to the child's mother, Kikelomo Ikori, 32, when the baby was delivered, they saw him holding something in his hand which was stained with blood, and after cleaning it, they discovered it was a mini Qur'an.
A day after the baby was born, hundreds of people stormed the resident of the new mum in Shonde street, Ijeshatedo, Surulere, wanting to see the baby with their own eyes. And since his birth, quite a number of Islamic scholars have traveled far and wide to see the baby. Some people believe it's real, some don't.
The baby's mother Kike, who was a christian before giving birth to the baby has now turned to a Muslim. The baby's daddy is a married man who left Kike and told her to abort the pregnancy when he found out she was pregnant, but Kike decided to keep the pregnancy.
The question now is; is this medically possible? Do you believe that this can happen?

‘She’s not on my level’ -Stephanie Okereke’s ex-hubby speaks
In an interview with entertainment reporter, Nonye Ben Nwankwo, Iloanusi disclosed the events that led to their break-up.
According to him, Stephanie sued him for N100m
on the grounds that he was married to another woman in America, to which he replied, ‘If I had been married to another woman and she had the documents
to prove it, nobody would talk about the court striking the case out. What she should be suing me for would have been bigamy. Nobody has charged me for bigamy. If I was charged with that, I would have defended myself and provided every document to show the real state of things. Everybody in Nigeria knows that when you have two marriages, you will be charged with bigamy.‘
He also denied that she was the main breadwinner during their marriage.
Iloanusi wished her the best in her new marriage, but criticized the public nature of her wedding, saying ‘Even if she wants to remarry, does she have to tell the general public about it? Nobody is stopping her. Everything about life is about upbringing and orientation, but I wish her the best of luck. I’m not competing with her. She no longer exists in my life. I hope she doesn’t come out of this marriage again and start going to newspapers saying the man did this or that to her. I don’t want anybody to break her heart‘.
As regards why he has been silent on the matter for so long, he said he didn’t want to discuss his life on the pages of newspapers, adding that ‘I’ve moved on very well and very fast. I have parted ways with her. I don’t have anything to do with her and I’ll never have anything to do with her. I’ll not wish her bad luck. She is not news to me…My fans should ignore her and whatever she says about me. It is not as if I cannot respond to everything she has been saying about me in the newspapers, it is just that she is not in my class‘.
The player denied reports he was jealous of his former wife, saying;
‘Why should I be jealous of her? She is in the past. I’ve moved on with my own life. There is absolutely no reason for me to be jealous…If you ask me, I will tell you she doesn’t exist in my life. We’re not on the same level… Some people phoned me to say she would wed in Paris, but I don’t care. She can go and marry in heaven‘.
Iloanusi, who says his career is ‘fantastic’, is currently the national vice-president of the National Association of Nigerian Footballers. Of this he says ‘our football is having problems, but it is all good‘.
The duo’s marriage was annulled earlier in the year, after over five years in court. A few months later, on Saturday, April 21, 2012, Okereke married her friend and business partner, Linus Idahosa, in Paris, in a star studded, multi-million naira wedding.
